Carbon footprint calculation and management

At KORU IASA we measure and manage the carbon footprint of your organisation or products, and help you reduce it, using internationally recognised methodologies and practical guidance suited to Chilean companies.

What is the carbon footprint?

The carbon footprint represents the amount of greenhouse gases (GHG) emitted into the atmosphere from the production or consumption of goods and services, and is considered one of the most important tools for quantifying those emissions. GHGs, identified in the Kyoto Protocol in 1997, accumulate in the atmosphere and trap part of the heat (infrared radiation) emitted by the Earth's surface, intensifying the natural greenhouse effect and thereby raising global temperatures.

What our service includes

  • Organisational carbon footprint: inventory of scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, in accordance with ISO 14064-1 and the GHG Protocol.
  • Product carbon footprint: quantification over the product life cycle, with reference to ISO 14067.
  • Management and reduction plan: identification of the most relevant sources and proposed mitigation measures.
  • Support for Huella Chile: preparation of the information for the Ministry of the Environment's voluntary programme.
  • Internal audits (optional): preparation ahead of the official audit with a verifier recognised by Huella Chile.
  • Response to non-conformities: advice on resolving the findings of the verification.
  • Training: 8-hour courses and workshops so your team understands and maintains the calculation.

How do we work?

  1. We define the boundaries of the organisation or product and the base year.
  2. We collect activity data: fuels, electricity, transport, waste and purchases.
  3. We calculate emissions using up-to-date, documented emission factors.
  4. We deliver a report with results by source and scope, and reduction recommendations.

Frequently asked questions

Is measuring the carbon footprint mandatory?

It is not mandatory in Chile; however, it is a very useful tool for demonstrating climate action efforts to competitors, environmental authorities and stakeholders. It is also a differentiator in public and private tenders, and a management tool for measuring environmental impact and progress towards national targets.

How long does the calculation take?

It depends on the size of the organisation and the availability of data. When we quote, we give you an estimated timeframe for your case.

Can I learn to calculate it in-house?

Yes. We offer carbon footprint courses and workshops for organisations and products, in person or online.
