Healthcare waste management (REAS)

We advise and train healthcare facilities on managing their waste in accordance with the Regulation on Waste Management in Healthcare Facilities (Supreme Decree 6/2009 of the Ministry of Health), from segregation at the point of generation through to disposal.

Why does it matter?

According to the WHO, about 85% of the waste generated by healthcare activities is general, non-hazardous waste, similar to household rubbish. The remaining 15% is hazardous and may be infectious, toxic or radioactive. Inadequate management exposes patients, staff and the community to infection and pollution risks, and the facility to health sanctions.
